Homemade Taco Seasoning
In 2006, my friend Brandie inspired me to shift to cooking more from scratch rather than relying on processed options. Despite my initial skepticism, especially as a busy mom with a toddler, Brandie assured me that making things from scratch didn’t significantly increase cooking time. Intrigued by the prospect of fewer preservatives and processed ingredients in our meals, I embraced this homemade taco seasoning recipe as the first step in bidding farewell to seasoning envelope packets. Since then, it has become a staple in my pantry.
Recipe Steps
Creating spice blends for your recipes instead of using store-bought spice envelopes is a simple process, though does require an initial investment in bulk spices. Feel free to customize the blend by adding or omitting spices based on your preferences. If smoked paprika isn’t available, regular paprika can be used as a substitute. Adjust the red pepper flakes according to your spice tolerance. You may also omit the salt and add it separately during cooking. This seasoning is delicious on any ground meat or chicken breast used to make tacos.
As lovers of Mexican-style cuisine, I prepare large quantities of this blend, storing it conveniently in my pantry.
