Homemade Salsa
There’s nothing like homemade salsa to elevate a meal or make snack time extra special! This recipe combines fresh tomatoes, cilantro, green onion, and a hint of jalapeño for just the right kick. Whether you like it mild or spicy, you can customize the heat level easily by adjusting the jalapeño. With just a few pulses in the food processor, you’ll have a vibrant, flavor-packed salsa perfect for dipping, topping tacos, or adding to burrito bowls.
Recipe Steps
In the Midwest, finding ripe tomatoes year-round can be challenging, making Rotel a great alternative. While some recipes use tomato sauce, I prefer original or even hot Rotel for an extra kick. If I have fresh, seasonal tomatoes on hand, I’ll drain the Rotel before adding it to the salsa for better balance.
For a chunkier texture, I use a food processor to coarsely chop the ingredients. If you don’t have one, a blender works as well, though it tends to create a smoother, sauce-like salsa.
